SGCA Day 1

We had our first official day of classes!  It was such a joy! SGCA is walking out how to learn in a Schole' environment, as part of the Schole' Pilot Groups around the country, under the guidance of Dr. Christopher Perrin with Classical Academic Press.

Here is a glimpse of our day...

Morning Time
This is our time of focus on virtues and missionary stories each morning.  We end each morning time with a Jesus cadence march around the building!

Great Books
This literary focused class will be introducing Ancient forms of poetry, literary devices, a story board using a variety of ancient cinderella stories, Greek mythology, and finally covering Aesop's fables.  Their class was held outside for part of the time.

Fine Arts
This class is focused on drawing techniques and end the year with shadow puppetry.

Schole' Lunches
An earmark of our Community is our restful, contemplative time for the first half of our lunch hour.  Listening to classical musicians, authors, story tellers, artists and more is the focus of this period of time.  It's to encourage the students to contemplate Truth, Beauty and Virtue in the world they live.

Science
This class is focused in on nature study and experimentation, alternating weeks.  Science classes are about learning the qualities of observation and classification, how a good scientist uses them, exploring scientific concepts through experimentation and seeing Wonder in the outdoors/God's creation.  Each nature study week they are taken on a nature walk to engage all their senses in nature exploration.

Math Games
This 30 minute per week class has the kids doing a variety of math related activities from Pi day to mental math to graphing exercises.  It's meant to sharpen those skills of mathematical thinking.

Latin
This class is using Song School Latin 2 from Classical Academic Press.  The kids watch the lesson videos together, practice their fun chants with the music to help them memorize their vocabulary and do review games.

It was a very blessed day and a great start to the school year!
